What I Made This Week-July 15th

This week started out slow. I didn't have much motivation, but half way through the week I was hit with a ton of ideas. I didn't have time to make everything I wanted to make, but this is a start:

White and Brown leather booties with fringe

Rob's step-mother and her sister in law brought me a bunch of leather samples they found at Chintz and Company (a very expensive furniture store in town) close to a year ago. I have had these booties in my head for almost the same amount of time. I feel pretty happy with the real life version.

I apologize for the very brief descriptions. I've been staying up late, and waking up early, and I am definitely feeling the effects of lack of sleep. Today I plan to try and fit one or two more projects in, but mostly I plan to rest. Tomorrow is the Moss St Paint In which means extended hours for the Moss St market, as well as around 10,000 people walking through the market! I hope to be bright eyed and bushy tailed, rather than a zombie:)

What I Made This Week-June 17/11

I kind of slacked this week, and didn't get as much done as I would have liked, but I think that will always be the case. There are so many ideas floating around in my head, and just one me, with three kids, so I am happy that I even make it into my sewing room at all!

These adorable little dresses are made from a scarf I found at the thrift store on Wed.

I cut the scarf in half and made each half into a dress by sewing up one side and adding elastic smocking. 

I like the red straps. It adds a nice amount of color.

This is a terrible picture. Brown against a brown background. What was I thinking? These dresses are super cute. I love the safari print.

and finally a new blanket with a double stitch around the blanket for extra security.

It has been so long since I have made a new blanket that I forgot how long the satin stitch takes. I have become so used to doing a straight stitch that I had to stop every now and then to make sure I was actually sewing!

This sunday I will be at the First Peoples Festival and will be bringing these goodies with me. If any of you are in the area please stop by to say "Hi".

Also, here is an interesting fact. The picture for my banner was taken last year at the First Peoples Festival by a Times Colonist photographer for the paper. My picture was the only picture featured in the paper that day, for the festival that is. It was a pretty exciting moment for me:)

Flower Baby Blanket

Yesterday I was finally in the mood to make a blanket. I've been all about the clothing for the last couple of weeks, but the Hudson's Bay blanket I bought last week was calling to me.

I know not a great picture. I didn't have my fancy new camera yet:)

All week I have had ideas running through my mind of colours and designs. This is one of them:

This blanket will come to the Moss St Market with me this weekend, and if it doesn't sell I will list it on my Etsy shop. Though I have been considering abandoning my shop for the summer, because I just don't have enough stuff to divide between my shop and craft markets. I'm still back and forth on that idea. Any feedback would be welcome:) 

                                

What I Made This Week

I have been sewing up a storm this week to build up my stock for the summer markets. At the last Moss St Market, Rob's sister brought a friend who almost cleared me out of children's clothing. I'm not complaining. I am so grateful that she loved so many of my items, but now I have my work cut out for me.

Yellow Smocked Sundress

This dress is so beautiful and magical to me. I imagine laying in a field of wildflowers and day dreaming of unicorns and princes on white horses.

This dress is made from a bed skirt that Rob found when we were thrift shopping. Because of the elastic smocking this dress can fit from a size 5 to a 10. It's a long dress for a 5 year old and can become a tunic for an older girl.

Upcycled Tank Dress with Ruffles and Flower

I love this little tank dress. It's so pretty and colorful. 

What little girl doesn't love ruffles and flowers and polka dots. As well as pink and purple:)

Red and White pants, just in time for Canada Day

A cute little country skirt made from the bed skirt as well as some fabric given to me by an interior designer. I can see this with a cute tank paired with little cowboy boots. So cute.

As always everything has been made from upcycled or recycled fabrics. It is so much fun, and is so exciting transforming each piece into something new, and realizing the bounty of materials we have available to us, that there is not always a need to buy new.

I am really hoping to do some garage saleing (does that look wrong to you. It looks wrong to me) this weekend and try to discover used items we can transform into something new for ourselves.

Custom Blue Suede Booties

I haven't made booties in a long while. My sewing machine was being a bit fussy, so I just stopped making booties. Turns out I didn't have the foot pressure strong enough, so it was an easy fix.

Yesterday I had a request for some Blue Suede Booties a 6m-12m size, so I hesitantly approached my machine and made these:

I think they turned out well

all the stitches were even

So now that I have figured out what I was doing wrong, there will be some more booty making happening.
