The Beginning of a New Quilt

Last night after the kids were all tucked in, I headed to my sewing room. I've been concentrating on making clothing, because I need to build up stock for the summer markets. Last night I just couldn't decide what to make, so I thought it was time for a quilt.

While I was making the front of the quilt I was thinking about putting a whale design on it, because I have not yet put a whale design on a quilt. When I woke up and came downstairs to look at it, my mind changed. It kind of looks like it is calling for a Tree of Life design.

What do you thing?

Beautiful Clouds

Rob wanted me to leave my sewing room tonight so he could show me the clouds. They were so magical looking I had to get some pictures.
I love how they look layered.

Then Rob had to get a picture with me. I don't like having my picture taken.

Ahhh...the rain has begun. I love the rain at this time of year. It's so refreshing, and smells so summery. It also, waters my garden, and that's very helpful:)

What I Made This Week-July 8th

I managed to do a bit more sewing this week, though it was one of those weeks where I had to make major mistakes on everything I made, so I am becoming quite proficient at taking garments apart.

Despite the mistakes, I am quite happy with what I have produced:

This is a shirt my sister in law asked me to transform. This mistake, I need to add a few more rows of elastic thread.

I silk screened yellow butterflies all over this beautiful knit, with a delicate floral pattern

and made leggings. The mistake, I am used to knit stretching in every direction, so I cut without checking. The leggings only stretch length wise not width wise, which is the most important way to stretch. No idea what to do with these now. My heart aches over this one.

A custom matching dress. The mistake, I made this super wide and short on my first attempt. Even though I have made this style dress numerous times, I totally messed up. It was a tad annoying.

and these three shirts are the before the transformation shots. I finally remembered to take before pictures.

Three shirts transformed into this lovely floral dress. Mistake, same as the other dress. I made it too wide. Ugh!

Blue, White and Green Rosettes. No mistakes!

Red Rosettes. No mistakes:)

Hip stripy pants. No mistakes:)

Jas showing just how fun these pants are:)

The mistake, I sewed the second to last panel of the skirt on backwards, and went on to serge the seam. That was un-fun!

They all worked out in the end, except for the leggings, which I still need to figure out what to do with. If you have any ideas on what I should do with the leggings, please do share them. I would be so happy to find a way to salvage them.

I hope you all have a great weekend. We will be celebrating my granny's 70th birthday today:)

Win Your Discount Wednesday at SVP-July 6, 2011

I have skipped the last couple of Wednesdays at St Vincent de Paul, so I had to make up for it today. Instead of Win Your Discount, they had 25% off everything over $1.00.

This is my haul:

Lots of fun colors, and stripes, which I love for kids clothing. Also, two wool blankets.

I just had to get this. Snake skin? Alligator skin? I have no idea. It's definitely some sort of faux reptile skin. You only come across a shirt like this once in your life, so I had to snatch it up. What I'm going to do with it, I have no idea!

This book grabbed my attention on the way to the till. I wouldn't normally spend $6.50 on a book, but this one looks pretty interesting. It's about the NAMES Project. I don't know much about the project, but I think it has to do with raising awareness about AIDS.

This is a huge quilt that was made. Each patch has the name of someone who was lost to AIDS. I know this is going to be a tough book for me to look through without crying.

Jude picked out this cool watch

It has a tiger face!

Now it's time to throw everything in the wash (except for the book) and give them a good cleaning.

It's My One Year Shop Anniversary on Etsy!

One year ago today I opened my Etsy shop. To be honest I was a little surprised when I discovered this yesterday! Though excited. When I first opened my shop, I am pretty sure it was empty for the first month or so, and when I finally did add items to my shop, I only added 3 or 4. I didn't understand why no one was visiting my shop! Aahhh! The lessons I have learned over the year. Actually most of my learning has happened in the last few months.

I love to celebrate special occasions, and I do believe this is a special occasion, so I am offering 15% off all orders from my shop. Just enter code SHOPLOVE at check out, from today until Friday July 8th. To visit my shop click here.

Happy shopping!!

Let Me Introduce You To....

Hermy The Albino Polar Bear:

Hermy is the only albino polar bear in the whole world, and is often excluded because of his "difference".

Rob came up with Hermy several years ago and I have been begging him to share Hermy with the world. He is such a quirky, silly character and I think you will love him. I know I do.

Each card is hand drawn by Rob, with cute and quirky sayings on the cover. Blank on the inside.

If you like Hermy and would like to see more of him, please leave a comment to encourage Rob to do more. It really warms his heart to hear positive feedback.
