Florescent Hoodies

My two littles just finished up their skating lessons with the Sooke Skating Club. For the end of year performance they had an 80's theme, which meant lots of bright colours. We were asked to dress the boys in a bright top with black pants and leg warmers.

What is brighter then florescent? I decided to make the boys florescent hoodies, because I have a huge stash of florescent sweat pant material given to me by my mother in law. It has been sitting in my fabric closet for a couple of years, and I have been itching to use it. 

I was helping Jai with geometry and was inspired to try some geometry out in my sewing project. The first pattern didn't work out so well. It was too wide and long for Jas, and slightly too small for Jai.

So I decided to take the hoodie apart and use the raglan tee pattern from the Sewing for Boys book (I love this book by the way), and it worked out perfectly. I just added a hoody.

And then I made one for Jude. Here they are on show day. Jude is focused on the puddles, and resisting the temptation to splash in them with his holey shoes.

What I Made This Week-Aug 5th

This week I have been working over time to make up for the lack of sewing I've done the last couple of weeks. I have a two day craft fair this weekend, and I thought it would be a good idea to have stuff to sell. Maybe?

I'm starting dresses with sleeves for the....I don't want to say the "F" word, because we have barely had a summer this year. It's depressing to think how close the change of seasons is.

Both leggings were made from the sleeves of long sleeve shirts.

These super fun pants, which don't look so great in the photo, but I think they are funky. Flat front pockets and a fitted waist. These are made from a man's polo shirt.

This skirt was meant for the dress below, but I made the waist too small and decided it was cute on it's own. I added the ruffle for a little extra and a fitted waist.

Upcycled dress.

Red leggings with white stripes and a fitted waist. These are fun and great for under dresses or skirts.

My younger brother (he is 19) is driving me and the kids into town today so we can get the rest of my oldest guys hockey gear. On Monday Jai will be starting a week long hockey camp. It is very exciting. Why is my brother driving us you ask? Oh, well because I still haven't learned how to drive. I did drive to my parent's house a couple of days ago. It's only 2 minutes away, but it counts.

Tonight I will be setting up for Art in the Park here in Sooke. It is a two day event, and I am excited, and a little nervous. It's my first event in Sooke, and I hope it goes well.

I have been neglecting my blog, not because I want to, or because I don't have anything to share. I actually have been writing my blog in my head. I've just been a REALLY, REALLY, tired. I don't know whats up. I've always had low iron levels, and think that may be the issue. This weekend I bought an iron supplement, and am hoping it will help. The most frustrating part of this has been not being able to sew. I have a few fairs coming up, and I got very little done. This week my goal is to make three items a day, so far I am on track. I will share more about that on Friday:)

These acrylic paints for Rob. I am hoping they are a good quality. I know nothing about paint.

Jai and I spotted this hoodie while we were in line, after I drew my 18% off chip. They let me draw another chip for this and I picked a 41% off chip! Jai really likes it, so I think I will have to let him have it, even though I picked it for myself. I think it will look handsome on him:)

I have been helping Rob put his blog together. He was finally persuaded to start a Hermy the Albino Polar Bear blog. You can check it out here. This is a great blog to read for a nice chuckle. I love Hermy, and have future plans to make a Hermy stuffy so I can give him a hug!

What I Made This Week-July 15th

This week started out slow. I didn't have much motivation, but half way through the week I was hit with a ton of ideas. I didn't have time to make everything I wanted to make, but this is a start:

White and Brown leather booties with fringe

Rob's step-mother and her sister in law brought me a bunch of leather samples they found at Chintz and Company (a very expensive furniture store in town) close to a year ago. I have had these booties in my head for almost the same amount of time. I feel pretty happy with the real life version.

I apologize for the very brief descriptions. I've been staying up late, and waking up early, and I am definitely feeling the effects of lack of sleep. Today I plan to try and fit one or two more projects in, but mostly I plan to rest. Tomorrow is the Moss St Paint In which means extended hours for the Moss St market, as well as around 10,000 people walking through the market! I hope to be bright eyed and bushy tailed, rather than a zombie:)

What I Made This Week-July 8th

I managed to do a bit more sewing this week, though it was one of those weeks where I had to make major mistakes on everything I made, so I am becoming quite proficient at taking garments apart.

Despite the mistakes, I am quite happy with what I have produced:

This is a shirt my sister in law asked me to transform. This mistake, I need to add a few more rows of elastic thread.

I silk screened yellow butterflies all over this beautiful knit, with a delicate floral pattern 

and made leggings. The mistake, I am used to knit stretching in every direction, so I cut without checking. The leggings only stretch length wise not width wise, which is the most important way to stretch. No idea what to do with these now. My heart aches over this one.

A custom matching dress. The mistake, I made this super wide and short on my first attempt. Even though I have made this style dress numerous times, I totally messed up. It was a tad annoying.

and these three shirts are the before the transformation shots. I finally remembered to take before pictures.

Three shirts transformed into this lovely floral dress. Mistake, same as the other dress. I made it too wide. Ugh!

The mistake, I sewed the second to last panel of the skirt on backwards, and went on to serge the seam. That was un-fun!

They all worked out in the end, except for the leggings, which I still need to figure out what to do with. If you have any ideas on what I should do with the leggings, please do share them. I would be so happy to find a way to salvage them.
