KCWC Day 2 Fall 2013

And this is why I have nothing for day 2! No she is not mine! I am taking care of her while her mom is at school. It has been exhausting, and by the end of the day I want to fall into my bed and sleep for two weeks straight.

As well as the baby (who just turned three months), I am also doing a 30 day fitness challenge. I work out everyday normally, so I didn't think it would be a big deal, except I have to wake up super early to get it in before the baby arrives. 

Not that I am not loving having a baby in the house, because I do! Especially a girl. Or that I am not loving my challenge, because I feel so much stronger. I just feel like I have no energy left at the end of the day to sew:( Oh did I mention the baby never naps! Maybe short stints while in my arms, but otherwise, NEVER! So sewing during the day is not an option. She is the sweetest, despite never sleeping, and spending 6-8 hours crying. We just love her. The boys are so loving with her.

Anyways, I thought for today I would share a few of my plans for KCWC. The stripy suit material and the electric blue cord I was telling you about yesterday are going to become W Pants.

KCWC Day 5

Silly me! I thought today was the last day for KCWC, turns out it's a full week, so I have two more days to sew for my kiddos.

Last night I was tired, and struggling to come up with ideas. I finally settled on making slippers for my biggest guy. He was commenting on how cold his feet have been, and so I offered to make him slippers, which he was excited about. Well I didn't get around to it until last night.

The slippers are made from felted wool sweaters (recognize the tops from Jasper's cardigan. I will be making him a pair too, to match his cardigan) from the thrift store, and the soles are suede from a suit I also found at the thrift store.

I didn't have a pattern, so it did take quite a bit of fiddling around, once I figured it out, they were super easy to put together. I can't wait to make more for the rest of us!

Jai said he loves them, and they are awesome! What more can I ask for from an 11 year old?

KCWC Day 4

And back to my regular colourful sewing schedule. 

After Jas saw Jude's red pants yesterday, he requested a pair for himself. These are just simple sweat pants with a fitted yoga waist.

The cardigan is from a felted wool sweater from the thrift shop. 

And now for the blurry photos. My camera has decided not to do auto focus anymore, and I'm finding it difficult to remember to adjust the light meter, AND focus at the sametime, plus I'm in the habit of just pressing the button and letting it focus for me. Sigh!

Tomorrow is the last day of KCWC Fall 2012! I feel like I need to go out with a bang, and still have no clue what I'm going to make. Hopefully inspiration hits me soon, because I'm not likely to last long today. I was up late (until 2 am) reading the second book of the Hunger Games, Catching Fire. OMG! I can't wait to start the third book! 

Staying up until the wee hours of the morning is not such a great idea for me, and I wish I had a little more self control, but it's just such an exciting book, and I couldn't tear myself away from it. So there is a chance I will be making something simple and not too exciting, but keep your fingers crossed for me, because I'm not a coffee drinker and have to make it through without help.

So I have decided to join up with the kcwc (Kids Clothes Week Challenge) on Elsie Marley's site. I am very excited, slightly intimidated, and very much looking forward to the inspiration. If you haven't heard about kcwc then I suggest heading over to check it out, and perhaps join up in the fun.

I adore these pants! I will most likely be unable to duplicate them, but I sure as heck would like to try.

For some reason the pointy hood won't let me write underneath it, so I am placing my comment here, not to intentionally cause confusion or disorder.

I love pointed hoods. Always have and probably always will:)

I love this style of pant. Not only are they awesome, but they are great for our rainy wet weather, when your kids pant cuffs drag in puddles, slowly soaking up the entire pant leg, and your kid has to change pants like a hundred times a day! Yes we have boots, and rain pants, but somehow, the pant cuff always finds a way to sneak out from under all the rain gear.

And I just love stripes and cowl necks at the moment, so I hope to make a couple of these.

It is very ambitious of me to think I could make all of this in one week, so I am trying to set the bar low and just use these as inspiration.

Of course I will be sticking with my values and I will be making upcycled clothing for my kids.

I am a huge fan of clean, simple designs, blending colours, and fabric patters such as stripes, polka dots, plaid etc.. to make fun, comfy and practical clothing.
